Chapters of Disabled Sports USA are invited to apply for scholarships to support the training of their adaptive snowsports instructors who teach disabled veterans.

Scholarships are available for the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy December 10-13, 2019.  The PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy is held in conjunction with the 32nd Annual The Hartford Ski Spectacular in Breckenridge, CO. This opportunity is provided as part of DSUSA’s Adapt2Achieve program.

Scholarships are intended to support DSUSA chapter staff, volunteers, instructors and coaches who are seeking to expand their adaptive snowsports teaching skills for the benefit of teaching disabled veterans. Chapters are responsible for nominating individual(s); personal scholarship applications submitted by other individuals will not be accepted. Maximum 2 scholarships will be awarded per chapter; please submit a separate application for each nominee. Awards are contingent on the availability of funds to be announced Fall 2019.

To qualify, a nominee must be:

  • A volunteer or staff member (18 years or older) at a DSUSA chapter
  • Instructors must provide disabled veterans at least 25 hours of adaptive snowsports lessons per season (in the 2018/2019 season, and plan to also provide the same or more in the 2019/2020 season)
  • Level 6 or higher skiing or snowboarding skills
  • PSIA-AASI certified or actively pursuing certification

In the event that the number of qualified applicants exceeds the scholarships available, priority will be given to chapters who have: not had a representative attend the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy in the last 2 years; limited training opportunities in their local area; annual operating budget of less than $1 million. Individuals with disabilities and veterans are encouraged to apply.
