To help support organizations showing a need, Disabled Sports USA is providing limited travel scholarships for DSUSA Chapters and Warfighter Sports Ambassadors to support staff/volunteers who serve disabled veterans and are seeking to expand their adaptive mountain bike teaching skills, but have limited training opportunities in the local area.

Requirements:

  • Affiliated with a DSUSA Chapter or Warfighter Sports Ambassadors
  • Provide services at no cost for disabled veterans
  • Not employed by the VA
  • Will travel at least 100+ miles to the nearest host city
Priority consideration will be given to individuals who:

  • Are qualified to earn BICP Level 1 Certification (first aid/CPR certified, 3 years mountain bike experience, ability to perform trailside repairs)
  • Affiliated with a DSUSA Chapter with annual operating budget less than $1 million
  • Help train staff/volunteers at their organization
  • Include a letter of recommendation from supervisor
  • Describe in application a significant need for the training (i.e. limited training opportunities in the local area, impact on services to disabled veterans in current/future programming)
  • Individuals with disabilities and veterans are encouraged to apply
Scholarship provides funding to support travel to participate in oneĀ Adapt2Achieve Adaptive Mountain Bike Training event in 2020:

  • Can be used to cover airfare, lodging, and ground transportation essential to attend training
  • Reimbursement is contingent upon successful completion of the course and submission of itemized receipts
  • All submitted receipts must follow DSUSA travel policies, which will be provided to the attendee if they are selected for the scholarship

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and recipients will be notified at least 30 days prior to the training date.
