Servicemembers Undertaking Disabled Sports (SUDS)

SUDS (“Servicemembers Undertaking Disabled Sports”) was started at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC, where our first SUDS scuba class was offered.

The SUDS program is for service members wounded, ill and injured with a permanent physical disability requiring adaptation. The training offered to the service members is a challenging and rewarding activity which can help facilitate the rehabilitation process and offers them an activity that they can enjoy for years to come.

The program is designed to help improve the lives of our injured service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan SUDS offers scuba certification programs through Scuba Diving International (SDI). The program is run by a dedicated staff of volunteers who are passionate about helping our injured service members and about the sport of diving.

Sailing

I have always been a competitive athlete and I enjoy that aspect of sailing. It’s not about who is the strongest, but who can think the best. It’s a three dimensional game of chess that is going on and the chess board is always changing. Water is never the same because of currents and the…

It was Jacques Cousteau, collaborating with French engineer Emile Gagnan, who developed the SCUBA. Getting Started To…
