With support from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Move United is excited to announce a unique training opportunity in Paralympic Nordic Sports led by Capital Region Nordic Alliance (CRNA) June 15-17, 2021 in Lake Placid, NY.
Trainees will be introduced to the Paralympic Nordic sports of cross country (XC) skiing, biathlon, trail orienteering and skeleton and will learn how to get veterans and others with disabilities involved in these activities. The training will take place at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Nordic Complex, including the facility’s biathlon range and various paved trails. Attendees will learn decision-making/problem solving skills associated with orienteering, the precision of biathlon shooting, the driving skills of bobsled/skeleton and the enjoyment of roller skiing to prepare for winter xc skiing.
“On behalf of Lake Placid, and the Olympic Regional Development Authority, I welcome all the trainees co-hosted by CRNA and Move United,” said CRNA Executive Director Russ Myer. “You are in the winter sports capital of the world with lots to do in the summer for winter participation. We hope you will enjoy all we have to offer in Nordic sports.”
The training is offered free of charge for eligible trainees including disabled veterans and members of the Armed Services, VA or DOD staff supporting adaptive sports for disabled veterans, Move United Member Organization staff and volunteers, and any other professional or volunteer serving disabled veterans and members of the Armed Services through adaptive sports programs (at no cost to the veteran).
These programs are funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The opinions, findings, and conclusions stated herein are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
