What does Move United Education do?

At Move United, we believe that in order to confront ignorance, we need to provide the tools and education to demystify disability and make inclusion reality. With 1 in 4 people in the United States having a disability, we need to do a better job of asking the right questions in order to create change. Move United Education not only provides advice on how to interact with people with disabilities (hint: just ask!), we produce the resources for you to better understand the disability experience both on and off the field. We make it easy to participate in adaptive sports and engage with people with disabilities. Through our training partnerships with athletes, members, National Governing Bodies, and leading sport, youth and community organizations, we’re here to deliver training resources to you that make adaptive sports accessible to more people.

What is the history of Move United Education?

Since its creation in 1967, Move United Education has placed an emphasis on elevating the adaptive sports industry, enabling sport providers to deliver improved program services to their communities through training and education opportunities. In addition to the supporting the industry with Move United Education products, Move United Education also provides a calendar packed with a variety of trainings.

How does Move United Education ensure that its content and resources are of the highest quality?

Move United develops resources and provides trainings based on needs expressed through the community. Move United works with qualified professionals, athletes, community partners, and National Governing Bodies to ensure that the resources provided are of the highest quality.

Who attends Move United Education programs?

Move United Education programs enable adaptive sports providers to deliver improved program services to their communities. Each year our calendar is packed with a variety of administrative, fundraising, program development and adaptive sports training for coaches, therapists, volunteers, military staff and adaptive sports professionals.

Space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis and organizations in the Move United network have access to exclusive perks like priority registration, and free or reduced enrollment fees.

I work for a community sport organization and would like to ensure that athletes with disabilities feel welcome. Where should I start?

Move United offers several resources that can assist you! In addition to referring to the adaptive sports training library, will soon be able to access the Move United Inclusive Sport Fundamentals, a document that will offer foundational guidance in how to adapt your program and properly equip your team to facilitate programming that welcomes everyone. Move United also offers a comprehensive Learning Management System that will provide guidance on such topics as inclusion, policy development, athlete engagement, etc.

How can my organization become a host for a training?

Opportunities to host various trainings will be advertised periodically throughout the year. To inquire about current or upcoming opportunities, please contact education@moveunitedsport.org

As a part of a Move United member organization, do I receive additional access to Education resources?

Move United member organizations receive free/discounted access to Move United Education events such as the annual Move United Education Conference. Please check in with your MU member organization to understand what if there are upcoming opportunities to get involved.

Can Move United help my staff and volunteers trained/certified?

Yes! Various sport-specific trainings, as well as the Move United Education Conference, are offered annually for free or reduced-cost as a way to help elevate the industry. We encourage you to respond to the semi-annual Membership Survey to inform us of your training needs.

How can I get involved as a trainer?

Move United seeks experts in adaptive sport and other related topics to develop and deliver training to the chapter network.

I am interested in learning about adaptions for a specific sport. Where can I find these resources?

While Move United houses a page specific to adaptive sport resources, we also recommend consulting your sport’s national governing body for additional resources.

Does Move United offer any resources to promote inclusion with kids?

Yes! Move United has developed the Inclusive Playbook to assist Educators with creating an environment in which all students feel that they belong. To download this resources and to view supplemental materials, please visit our website here.

I do not live in the United States – can I still be involved with and benefit from Move United Education?

Absolutely! Please make sure to check out our digital resources. Many of our products are available online for ease of access.

Do opportunities exist within Move United Education to pursue Continuing Education Credits?

Often, Move United Education events will be pre-approved for CEUs including the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification and BlazeSports Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sports Specialist. Respective information will be provided with each event. Please contact the event manager with any additional questions.
