Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's

The questions below address frequently asked questions.

Is there a calendar or schedule of when grants become available?

The grant opportunities are funding dependent. As such, we are unable to publish a calendar of opportunities in advance. We do our best to communicate opportunities to our chapters as they become available. It is common for grant opportunities to be announced in the Fall and again in late winter/early Spring, but others may be announced as they become available.

How much time do organizations have to apply?

The time allotted for applications usually depends on the deadlines set forth by the funders.  We do our best to communicate opportunities to our chapters as they become available, and provide at least 2-3 weeks time to submit applications.

We recommend that chapters keep in mind the types of funding we typically award, to keep those programs at top of mind and ready for when funding becomes available.  Also, keep in mind that the most important information in your application are the specific goals and logistical details of the program.  There is never a need to write a narrative on the importance of adaptive sports programs for your participants (as is the case with your other funders), which can help your application be as streamlined and specific as possible.

What kind of funding is available? What does grant funding cover?

Funding typically supports one of the following programs/events:

  • Military
  • Training/Education
  • Youth and Young Adult
  • Competition
  • Adaptive Equipment

Within these categories, funding may cover programming expenses, equipment, travel (in some cases), contract labor certification/training fees, etc.  Awards do not typically cover administration costs (i.e. salaries, rent, insurance) and apply to expenses directly related to the programming/event identified in the grant agreement.  The award notice details if any expenses are limited or prohibited by the grant award.  Grants do not usually cover the entire cost of the program, rather they are a contribution/sponsorship similar to your other funders.

How much is awarded?

Grant awards vary depending on funding but generally average between $5,000 and $10,000.  We do our best to offer support to as many programs as we can, while still making the award amounts impactful.  Each individual grant opportunity describes the range of awards that will be given.

I am not a Move United member. Can I apply for grants?
