The race camp offers a high-level training opportunity for athletes with physical disabilities to learn how to race or advance their skills.  Athletes who have never raced, but meet the basic criteria, are encouraged to participate. Race camp is intended for emerging athletes interested in or pursuing a competitive career.

What to Expect

Alpine:  Two tracks available, Introductory and Advanced

Alpine Learn-To-Race: No prior race experience necessary.  Improvement of technical skiing ability, introduction to race tactics, course drills, equipment tuning, movement analysis, race day experience/fun race.

Alpine Advanced: Must have previously participated in a race camp or introductory race program. Focus is on technical skiing ability, race tactics, course drills, movement analysis.  We will also cover off season conditioning, equipment tuning, and race day experience/fun race.

Nordic/Biathlon:

Terrain located at the Breck Nordic Center (Athletes will be shuttled from Beaver Run and back). Skills & drills, movement analysis. Development training camp aimed to provide Paralympic level coaching in training methodology, technical skills and race tactics in adaptive Nordic, in addition to biathlon specific skills.   This camp will provide athletes with the opportunity to train double session throughout the camp and experience training as a full time Nordic athlete.  It will also cover more about next steps for athletes in furthering their training and racing.  Paralympic eligible Standing, visually impaired and sit skier are all welcome.

Snowboard: Two tracks available, Introductory and Advanced

Snowboard Learn-To-Race: No prior race experience necessary.  Improvement of technical riding ability, introduction to race tactics, course drills, equipment tuning, movement analysis, race day experience/fun race.  Introduction to race progression with ability to ride more advanced terrain and jumps by the end of the week.

Snowboard Advanced: Must have previously participated in a race camp or introductory race program. Focus is on technical riding ability, race tactics, course drills, movement analysis.  We will also cover off season conditioning, equipment tuning, and race day experience/fun race.

Criteria

Athletes with physical disabilities, who meet Paralympic classification criteria in their sport (athletes need not have been previously classified):
Athletes 13 years of age or older

Alpine: Base skill level – Intermediate/Advanced

Alpine Introductory: Consistently ski BLUE terrain. Must ski independently, but may use assistance of helper/volunteer/parent if not yet able to load or right yourself independently.
Alpine Advanced: Consistently ski groomed BLACK terrain independently. Must be able to load and ski independently.

Snowboard: Base skill level – Intermediate/Advanced

Snowboard Introductory: Consistently carve BLUE terrain. Must be able to load and snowboard independently.
Snowboard Advanced: Consistently carve groomed BLACK terrain.  Must be able to load and snowboard independently.

Nordic/Biathlon: Prior experience is encouraged, but not necessary

Must be ready and willing to train twice daily throughout the camp and have interest in training and competition outside of event.  Experience and interest in endurance sport is also highly recommended.

Equipment

Move United does not provide equipment for race camp participants (including VI bibs). If you do not own your own equipment or are unable to bring it with you, please make arrangements in advance of the event.

Equipment must be snow ready prior to arrival at the event.

Pricing

Early Bird Registration Price: $350 Full Week
(regular registration price: $400 starting 10/02/2023)

Price does NOT include a lift ticket. Participants can opt to pre-purchase lift tickets during online registration (lift tickets are $86/day)

Ski Spec Challenge Race

Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding

  • Individual Category: An entry level race designed for developing athletes to gain race experience on less challenging terrain.
  • Team Category: A fun competition between teams of five, which includes at least one skier or snowboarder with a disability

*individuals must be registered for the event to participate

Development (previously Youth & Young Adult) Scholarship

High Level Training Opportunity: Alpine – Snowboard – Nordic/Biathlon

For athletes with a permanent, physical disability and have raced previously, are currently racing, or plan to race this season. Scholarship athletes (18 and younger) are required to be accompanied by a personal coach, who will shadow the camp’s lead coaches.

Scholarship Includes:

  • Race Camp Registration
  • Coaching from elite adaptive race coaches
  • Ground Transportation to/from Denver International Airport
  • 6-nights lodging in Breckenridge, CO
  • One, 5-day lift ticket (non-transferable)
  • 1 opening and 1 closing Banquet ticket
  • Local discounts
  • Event goody bag

Military Scholarship

For military members with a permanent, physical disability and have raced previously, are currently racing, or plan to race this season.
