kathy_chandlerKathy Chandler became one of the first PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) adaptive and alpine certified examiners in the east in 1986 and has been teaching and examining other instructors since then. She has traveled to Spain, Austria and Canada and all over this country assisting others in how to teach all of the different adaptive techniques. Kathy was the Adaptive Coordinator for the Eastern Division of PSIA, managing all of the adaptive education and certification for eastern members.

After founding and running an adaptive skiing program in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire for many years, Kathy founded AbilityPLUS, Inc. in 1997, a non-profit organization committed to helping other sports and recreation organizations to make their facilities and program accessible to individuals with disabilities. With her help nine programs were started in the northeast. It is her passion to bring more people into the field.

Kathy was instrumental in development of an Eastern Race Group who created the Diana Golden Level 1 Race series for developing young skiers. This series has become a model used all over the country to bring new racers into to field and help to build the base of racers who may someday make it to the national team level. This series was named appropriately for Diana Golden, who always wanted to help the aspiring racers.

Kathy has also run numerous events locally, regionally and nationally. As part of the Wounded Warriors Project and Warfighter Sports her organization has hosted soldiers and Marines wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, some coming directly from Walter Reed Hospital. She has assisted Disabled Sports USA in running the Ski Spectacular in Breckenridge Colorado for many years in many different capacities, as clinic leader, Learn to Race Coordinator, Event Manager and Skier Development Manager. She was the head coach of Team for Special Olympics in 1997 and 2001. In that capacity she took the first physically disabled sit down skier to a World Games for Special Olympics International. Kathy has written numerous articles for local, regional and national publications including the latest Coaches Guide for alpine skiers for SOI.
