Disabled Sports USA and The United States Tennis Association Promote Wheelchair Tennis for Disabled Veterans

Disabled Sports USA is excited to announce that it will offer three upcoming Wheelchair Tennis Coach Development Workshops from The United States Tennis Association (USTA). These trainings will be offered free of charge and the first event will be hosted at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, February 13-14.

With support from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the training is designed to prepare coaches to engage disabled veterans in the sport, whether they are experienced tennis professionals or newcomers from Disabled Sports USA chapters and VA Medical Centers. Attendees will also be eligible to receive funds to acquire sport chairs that will expand access to wheelchair tennis in their community.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the VA and Disabled Sports USA for this opportunity,” said Jason Allen, Manager of Wheelchair Tennis and Technical at USTA. “We hope to continue our efforts by bringing wheelchair tennis to every community that will benefit from physical activity. Active military and veterans have done so much for us. It is an honor for us to do something for them in order to show our appreciation.”

Adapt2Achieve, a program of Disabled Sports USA, promotes inclusion in sports and recreation by offering customized adaptive sport guidelines and training content for sports and community organizations. Over 100 trainings have been offered since 2009 in more than 30 states across the country.
