Move United knows the transformational power The Hartford Ski Spectacular has had on thousands of participants and instructors for over three decades. For the first time ever, Move United will host the 33rd Annual The Hartford Ski Spectacular virtually and everyone is invited to participate!

NAA Free Session: Psychological Wellness on the Slopes: Culturally-Inclusive Work with Veteran Athletes through a Whole Health Healing Model
When teaching individuals who have experienced trauma, it is often helpful to work from a trauma-informed perspective but it is important to recognize the limitations of this practice. This 1-hour session will take a dive into what it looks like to use the healing-centered model to instill confidence in athletes, particularly those who have experienced trauma and veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In addition, this session will also discuss how the US Department of Veterans Affairs is advancing Whole Health, a cutting-edge approach to care that supports the overall physical, emotional, and mental health of veterans, and how you can integrate best practices into everyday teaching. The Interpersonal Gap: Separating What’s Mine From Yours in People Skills
People Skills in PSIA-AASI help us develop trust with our students. The strategies to do so include: focusing on our communication, developing our self awareness and management, and deliberately managing relationships with others. Because there are at least two people in any interaction, recognizing which parts of an interaction we are responsible for is one of the trickiest parts of people skills. This session will present the interpersonal gap, a model for understanding human interaction. Challenging behavior can perplex and test the most seasoned instructors. Session participants will investigate functions of behavioral and social challenges exhibited by students and focus on solutions for working with these learners in a new world that includes Covid restrictions
This interactive Zoom clinic will explore various commonalities or differences in intellectual diagnoses and developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders that may present challenging situations in behavioral responses. Biski Independence
The Covid era demands that we look through a different lens when teaching biskiers with hand-held outriggers. What we see is the opportunity to approach the task with hands-off methodologies that allow the guest to discover their own role in skill development and skiing independence. As the winter months approach, programs are eager to understand what the impact of COVID-19 and related guidelines will be on the adaptive snow sports season. Transforming Compassion Fatigue into Compassion Satisfaction
Compassion fatigue is frequently defined as “burnout” – it is not! Neurocognitive Disorders: Deeper Insights for Snowsports Instructors
During this interactive session we will investigate the common threads of compromised brain disorders. Information uncovered will help you to support emotional and social goals of guests with neurocognitive diagnoses during your lessons this winter and beyond.
We will explore various commonalities or differences in neurocognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, TBI and even aging senior skiers with diagnoses that present challenging situations in supporting a person with diminishing brain capacity. The course will provide an overview look at the brain function and include information about successful lesson planning for students who need emotional and safety supports in lessons. Safety precautions; teaching methodologies, and discussion on how some issues can be handled will also be discussed. This session content is CE pre-approved by NCTRC.

As part of the 33rd Annual The Hartford Virtual Ski Spectacular, help us trek the 1,995 miles between Hartford, Connecticut and Breckenridge, Colorado! Join a community of hundreds of athletes, volunteers, coaches, and adaptive sports staff who are committing to move at least 1 mile from November 25-December 2. You can Run, Push, Walk, Cycle, Handcycle, Ski, or Paddle. No matter how you move you can join the MOVEment and help us reach our goal!

We invite anyone interested in learning more about adaptive snowsports to join this event! We will have multiple fitness sessions occurring each day, with emphasis on Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, and Nordic Skiing. In addition, for anybody seeking training on adaptive snowsports instruction, we will be offering the adaptive snowsports instructor continuing education clinics through the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy.
What is the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy?
he PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy is a continuing education opportunity open to anyone interested in learning more about adaptive snowsports instruction. Examiners and clinicians certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) will present the latest in adapted ski and snowboard teaching methods. Programs are offered for all disciplines and levels..
What is the cost to attend the The Hartford Virtual Ski Spectacular?
Thanks to our wonderful partners, general sessions, fitness sessions, and select PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy sessions will be offered free of charge. The remaining PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy Sessions will have a fee of $10 per credit hour. Thanks to generous support of The Hartford and Move United’s commitment to adaptive instructor training and education, we are subsidizing over half of the continuing education clinic fees this year.
Can I attend just one day of the The Hartford Virtual Ski Spectacular?
Yes! We encourage you to attend as many sessions and as many days as possible, but understand that people have busy schedules.
Do I need to be a member of PSIA-AASI in order to attend the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy
No, you do not have to be a member of PSIA-AASI in order to attend the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy. If you would like to receive PSIA-AASI CEUs, however, you will need to be a member.
Will CEUs be offered for the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy Continuing Education sessions?
Yes! Each of the sessions offered through the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy will be eligible for 1 PSIA-AASI CEU per clinic hour. Attendance will be sent to PSIA-AASI National within 30 days following the event. Please note that it does often take several weeks for these credits to reflect in your account. Select sessions are NCTRC CE pre-approved and have been denoted on the schedule. All PSIA-AASI NAA sessions are currently under review for BlazeSports CARSS CEU pre-approval. If have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Are there capacity limits on the PSIA-AASI National Adaptive Academy Sessions? If so, are there also going to be waitlists?
All sessions aside from the 5 free NAA sessions will have set capacities. Most capacities are set between 10-20 people, with a few variations, so we recommend getting registered early to secure your spot. When you register as well as when you modify your registration, you will be able to see how many spaces are left in each session. Sessions will fill on a first come, first served basis and there will be no waitlists.
Can I change my registration?
Yes! To review/modify your registration, you’ll want to return to the
registration home page. Scroll to the bottom right hand corner of the page and select “Already Registered?” just below the “Register” button. Once you are here, you will want to enter the email that you registered with as well as the confirmation number sent in your registration confirmation email.
If I paid for NAA sessions but can no longer attend, am I able to receive a refund?
Full refunds will be available through November 20th. After November 20th, however, no refunds will be available.
I have registered for the event but am having trouble accessing my sessions. Where can I find help?
